Wyoming Trona Mine Could Be First In US To Have Its Own Micronuclear Power Plant | Your Wyoming News Source A Second Industry Looks at Advanced Nuclear for Its Energy Needs A mine in Green River, in southwestern Wyoming, has signed an agreement with BWXT Advanced Technologies of Virginia to explore the installation of micro-reactors that would produce up to 100 megawatts. The mine, owned by Tata Chemicals, produces trona, a mineral converted at an adjacent refinery to make soda ash used in glass, paper, and other products. The reactors would provide power to both, displacing fossil fuels. The state legislature has already appropriated $150 million to explore nuclear power in Colorado. Dow is planning four small gas-graphite reactors at a chemical plant called Seadrift in Texas.
