NRC wants Entergy to re-evaluate aging underground pipes

Entergy is urged to reassess Vt. plant's pipeline system
Federal regulators have urged Entergy to review its plan for handling pipelines carrying radioactivity as a condition of its license-extension bid for the Vermont Yankee nuclear plant. Though the company "accurately and completely" detailed different safety systems in its application, it left out the advanced off-gas system, which was the source of the tritium leak last year, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission said in a report. "We wanted to ensure the Vermont Yankee license-renewal application accurately captured details of the plant's program for managing the effects of aging on key safety systems," said NRC spokesman Neil Sheehan.
