Sudan Announces Plans to Build First Nuclear Power Plant in 2020
The Sudanese government announced it plans to build the country's first nuclear reactor and first nuclear power plant in 2020, the African Business Journal reported, citing the Sudanese state news agency SUNA. SUNA quoted Mohammed Ahmed Hassen el-Tayeb, director-general of the Sudanese Atomic Energy Agency, as saying: "The Ministry of Electricity and Dams has already started preparing for the project to produce power from nuclear energy in cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency and is expected to build the first nuclear power plant in year 2020." Currently, most of Sudan's power comes from dams on the Blue Nile and White Nile.
