The Nuclear Regulatory Commission should take more time to review Entergy's bid to extend the operating license of its Pilgrim nuclear plant in Massachusetts, Gov. Deval Patrick said, citing concerns for "public safety, public health and the environment." Agency personnel have already recommended the relicensing, and a commission vote is anticipated soon. "We do believe that the plant is being operated safely, we believe that it has the appropriate level of security, and the staff believes that the review that has been conducted shows that the plant can operate safely for an additional 20 years," said Diane Screnci, a spokeswoman for the NRC.
