Entergy is expected to request new backup generator for Vt. plant

c
Entergy will soon ask for clearance from the Vermont Public Service Board to install a new diesel generator at its Vermont Yankee nuclear plant because of TransCanada's and ISO New England's decision to halt maintenance of the Vernon Hydro Dam as a Blackstart facility by year's end. The plant acknowledges the dam as its required Station Blackout AC power source, according to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. "Therefore, Vermont Yankee will need a new AC power source in order to continue to meet the NRC requirements for coping with a Station Blackout condition," said NRC spokesman Neil Sheehan.
