Current situation of Fukushima Daiichi and Daini nuclear power station
Current situation of Fukushima Daiichi and Daini nuclear power station
Announcements
Current status of the Fukushima Daiichi NPS and Fukushima Daini NPS after the earthquake (M7.3) at the offshore of Sanriku at 5:18 pm on December 7, 2012.
[As for the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station]
After the earthquake occurred at 5:18 pm on December 7, 2012, we have conducted field patrols at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, and have found there was no problem.
* We will conduct field patrols for the equipments of the cooling system on the outside and the monitoring posts of Units 5 and 6 on December 8.
[As for the Fukushima Daini Nuclear Power Station]
After the earthquake occurred at 5:18 pm on December 7, 2012, we have conducted checkups at the Fukushima Daini Nuclear Power Station, and have found there was no problem.
Since we had found positive pressure in the reactor building of Unit 1, we have started Stand by Gas Treatment System* (the pressure was 0.05 kPa at that time of the start), and confirmed negative pressure in the reactor building. The negative pressure has been kept currently. We will conduct inspections for the cause of this matter.
The fluctuation of the monitoring post readings is being maintained within the range of normal fluctuation before and after the earthquake and currently no radiation impact to the outside of the power station has been reported due to the earthquake. The Unit 1 of Fukushima Daini Nuclear Power Station is under the cold shutdown condition and there is no problem.
* Stand by Gas Treatment System: System that discharges air from the reactor building through exhaust stack to the outside. There are two systems; A and B. http://www.tepco.co.jp/en/nu/fukushima-np/index-e.html

What Are the Near-Term Climate Pearl Harbors?
Posted: 08 Dec 2012 03:12 AM PST
One
of the media’s greatest failings is ‘underinforming’ people that “Bad
things are happening to real people right now thanks in part to
human-caused climate change — droughts, wildfires, flooding, extreme
weather, and on and on.” If you have the right hypothesis or worldview,
you can make sense out of “noisy” warnings. If you don’t, then you will
be oblivious even to signs that in retrospect will seem quite obvious.http://theenergycollective.com/josephromm/154286/what-are-near-term-climate-pearl-harbors-what-will-take-us-procrastination-action?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=The+Energy+Collective+%28all+posts%29

Saudis eye solar-power exports to Europe
Saudis eye solar-power exports to Europe
Saudi Arabia may have been the world’s top oil producer for longer than
many people have been alive, but now it is turning its sights to a new
type of energy to export: solar power.
People in Egypt and even Europe could one day turn on their lights with electricity transmitted from the vast bank of solar power stations that Saudi Arabia aims to build in coming years, according to a senior Saudi official and others familiar with the kingdom’s plans.
“This is a very ambitious programme and a very ambitious plan,” the official said, adding that although it could take some years to achieve, “the potential is really great, the potential is big and we believe Saudi Arabia will be major producers of solar energy”.

Fukushima Reactors Stable After 7.3 Magnitude Quake
by emcerlain
A 7.3 magnitude earthquake struck Japan overnight,
triggering tsunami warnings across the island nation. The warnings were
lifted soon after and the quake caused very little damage.
We’ve got out eyes on the situation at Fukushima Daiichi, and things there look quiet according to ABC News: “No damage has been reported at monitoring posts and water treatment facilities at the reactors … All the workers were moved to higher ground on the site and told to stay inside after the tsunami warning.”http://safetyfirst.nei.org/japan/fukushima-reactors-stable-after-7-3-magnitude-quke/
Tokyo Electric Power Company has released the following statement about the quake, relative to the Fukushima Daiichi and Fukushima Daini nuclear power plants:

TEPCO, 12/7/2012
Announcements
At around 5:18 PM on Friday, December 7, an earthquake (seismic intensity of 4) occurred in Hamadori region in Fukushima Prefecture. The conditions of the nuclear power stations are as follows.
Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station
There has been no problem found with the monitoring post data, Units 1-6 main plant parameters, reactor water injection system, accumulated water transfer, water treatment facility and other facilities. Currently, no injury has been reported due to the earthquake. The maximum acceleration observed in the power station was 26.2 Gal (horizontal direction) at the foundation ground in Unit 6 Reactor Building.
Fukushima Daini Nuclear Power Station
The maximum acceleration observed in the power station was 26.0 Gal(vertical direction) at the foundation ground in Unit 1 Reactor Building.
The fluctuation of the monitoring post readings is being maintained within the range of normal fluctuation before and after the earthquake and currently no radiation impact to the outside of the power station has been reported due to the earthquake. No injury has been reported due to the earthquake.
We will continue investigating the conditions of the equipments/facilities in the power stations.

Other updates - The politicians not in the LDP
expressed shock at the Kyodo and Yomiuri poll results. One party
incumbent from the Chubu region said, “It is all Noda’s fault.”... A
major earthquake struck the Tohoku region of Northeastern Japan today,
measuring 7.3 on the Richter scale. The earthquake had no impact on any
of the ten nuclear plants located at F. Daiichi and F. Daiini, and
radiation levels at F. Daiichi did not change.

U.S. Energy Department Report Supports Shale Boom Credibility
by dg@oilprice.com (Daniel J. Graeber)
The
U.S. Energy Department said crude oil production from the United States
could reach 7.5 million barrels per day before the end of the decade.
Natural gas production, meanwhile, should increase to the point that the
country becomes a net exporter of LNG. The report found most of the
growth was from shale and other tight formations. Last month, shale
opponents characterized U.S. growth predictions from the International
Energy Agency as "dangerously false." Before the Energy Department's
report, however, oil companies operating in some of the…http://oilprice.com/Energy/Crude-Oil/U.S.-Energy-Department-Report-Supports-Shale-Boom-Credibility.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+oilpricecom+%28Oil+Price.com+Daily+News+Update%29

U.S. LNG Export Industry to be Worth $47 Billion a Year by 2020
by peixej@oilprice.com (Joao Peixe)
A
recent study carried out by NERA Economic Consulting on behalf of the
US Energy Department has found that the economic benefits of exporting
its cheap and abundant natural gas in the form of LNG far outweigh the
negative potential of an increase in prices for domestic
consumers.Already more than a dozen LNG projects have been proposed by
various energy companies across the US, all planning to export to Europe
and Asia where gas commands a far higher price, however the White House
has always been very reluctant to approve any of these projects…Read more...http://oilprice.com/Latest-Energy-News/World-News/U.S.-LNG-Export-Industry-to-be-Worth-47-Billion-a-Year-by-2020.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+oilpricecom+%28Oil+Price.com+Daily+News+Update%29
