Rolls-Royce Holdings
Rolls-Royce Holdings has denied a report it was exploring an initial public offering for its small nuclear reactor unit, Reuters reported. The Financial Times, citing people familiar with the situation, reported on Saturday the company was considering an IPO as well as other funding options. It said talks with investment houses and banks were at an early stage. "Rolls-Royce SMR is not planning for, or in the process of launching, an initial public offering," a spokesperson for the unit told Reuters.
Hualong One
China's Hualong One has become the world's most deployed third-generation nuclear reactor technology, with 41 units currently in operation or under construction globally, according to China General Nuclear. Speaking to the press in Shenzhen, CGN said the technology has demonstrated an excellent operational performance, with seven units already connected to grids worldwide, Xinhua reported.
Diablo Canyon
Diablo Canyon unit 2 officially entered extended operations on 27 August, utility PG&E has announced. In 2016, with a decline in electric customers and state prioritisation of solar and wind energy, PG&E had agreed with environmental and labour groups that the two-unit plant would close by August this year. But after statewide rotating outages during a heat wave in 2020 and increased demand projections, California lawmakers directed the San Luis Obispo County power plant to keep running until 2030. Unit 1 began extended operations in November 2024.
