Energy Dept. plans underground vitrification pretreatment plant in Wash.
The construction of
an underground plant with the same technologies as the Pretreatment
Facility at the Hanford vitrification plant in Washington state is being
considered by the Department of Energy. The proposed plant would be
mostly underground in order to provide radiation shielding of the liquid
filtration system, which would include a system of pipes with tiny
filtration pores. Contractor Washington River Protection Solutions was
asked to prepare a technical and cost proposal for the proposed plant's
initial design activities. Tri-City Herald (Kennewick, Pasco and Richland, Wash.)
