NRC Seeks Public Comment on Draft Environmental Report for
Davis-Besse Nuclear Plant License Renewal
–
Meetings Scheduled for March 25
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission seeks public comment on a draft report assessing the
environmental impacts of extending the operating license for the Davis
-
Besse nuclear power plant in Oak Harbor, Ohio.
The Davis Besse Nuclear Power Station is a single pressurized water reactor and is licensed to
operate through April 22, 2017. First Energy Nuclear Operating Co. applied on Aug. 27, 2010, to renewthe license for an additional 20 years.
The draft environmental impact statement contains the NRC staff’s preliminary finding that the
environmental impacts of license renewal would not preclude renewing the license. This finding is
based on the analysis and findings in the agency’s generic environmental impact statement on license
renewal, the environmental report submitted byFirst Energy, consultation with federal, state and local
agencies, the NRC staff’s own independent review, and the staff’s consideration of public comments.
The NRC staffwill hold two public meetings March 25 at theCamp Perry Conference Center,
1000 Lawrence Road, Building 600,inPort Clinton, Ohio, to present the report’s findings and receive
comments from the public. The first session will run from 2-4 p.m., and the second from 7-
9 p.m.
Comments may also be submitted over the federal rulemakings website at
www.regulations.gov, using Docket IDNRC-2010-0298 , or mailed to Cindy Bladey, Chief, Rules, Announcements, and Directives Branch, Office of Administration, Mail Stop: 3WFN-06-
