Video Highlights First Quarter Progress At V.C. Summer Construction Site
SCANA Corporation subsidiary SCE&G invites you to tour
first quarter progress at the V.C. Summer Units 2 and 3 build in
Jenkinsville, S.C. with a four and a half minute video that features
some of heaviest lifts required for the project.
First quarter progress in 2015 featured the arrival of major components, including two steam generators that arrived by ship and rail from South Korea. The two Westinghouse AP1000 generators arrived just weeks apart in January. They weigh approximately a million pounds and measure more than 80 feet in length.
Workers also made progress on the 47CAO-1 sub-module, which is nearing completion and represents the heaviest lift of the entire operation. Standing nearby, says video host Rhonda O'Banion, is a derrick with a 7,500 ton lift capacity. It will be put to the test repeatedly before the build is complete.
