Wolsong nuclear plant No. 1 restart hits snag
he Wolsong nuclear power plant No. 1 will not be able to resume
operations late this month, as a majority of residents in Yangnam-myun,
Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang Province, voted against its operation in the
residential referendum Thursday. If the plant, which takes up around
three percent of total nuclear power generation capacity in S. Korea,
fails to restart operating, this would cause a setback in meeting
soaring electricity demand this summer.
