Georgia Power Clip Shows Progress On Plant Vogtle Units 3 And 4
Georgia Power on Monday
released its latest video footage of progress at the Plant Vogtle Unit 3
and 4 construction project underway near Waynesboro, Ga.
Vogtle TimelineThe company celebrates progress on the massive project that includes more than 6,000 construction workers currently on site and boasts of the creation of 800 or more permanent jobs that will be added to the economy once the new reactors go operational.
Once all four Vogtle units are running, it is expected the plant will generate more electricity than any other U.S. nuclear facility – churning out more than enough power to supply more than one million homes and businesses with carbon-free electricity.
Highlights of the new timeline include construction progress through the second quarter of 2016, which featured the delivery of reactor coolant pumps from Pennsylvania, completion of the final “Big 6” modules (CA02 and CA03) and completion of vertical construction of the Unit 4 cooling tower, which stands at 601 feet tall.
The video features comments from Georgia Power nuclear development technical support vice president David Jones, who reviews the “One Team: Every Day Matters” construction strategy and comments from training director John Austin, who discusses progress on operational readiness, which is training for the upcoming plant operations. A personal perspective on the importance of community outreach is discussed by engineering supervisor Magali Koyo.
