Draft Consent-Based Siting Process for Consolidated Storage and Disposal Facilities for Spent Nuclear Fuel and High-Level Radioactive Waste

The Department of Energy today released the Draft Consent-Based Siting Process for Consolidated Storage and Disposal Facilities for Spent Nuclear Fuel and High-Level Radioactive Waste. The draft process will be open for public comment from now until April 14th. If you’d like to provide feedback or comments on the draft process, please email us at consentbasedsiting@hq.doe.gov. We welcome your thoughts and feedback!

The Department also recently released the final version of Designing a Consent-Based Siting Process: Summary of Public Input. It includes feedback received as part of the “Invitation for Public Comment to Inform the Design of a Consent-Based Siting Process for Nuclear Waste Storage and Disposal Facilities” issued in the Federal Register in December 2015 and public meetings held in 2016.  It also incorporates public comments received on the draft report received between 9/15 and 10/30, 2016.  Those comments are also available in their entirety.

Thank you again to everyone who attended our public meetings and provided input!
