The House Energy & Commerce Committee
voted yesterday to advance two nuclear bills: H.R. 1320, the
Nuclear Utilization of Keynote Energy Act,
which would revise the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's (NRC) fee
recovery structure to increase the predictability, transparency, and
efficiency of the NRC's regulatory processes; and H.R. 6140,
the Advanced Fuel Nuclear Availability Act,
which would direct DOE to establish a program to support the
availability of high-assay low-enriched uranium for advanced reactor
development. Both bills must now be voted on by the full House of
Representatives.
The committee also yesterday introduced H.R. 6351,
the Advancing U.S. Civil Nuclear Competitiveness and Jobs Act,
sponsored by Rep. Bill Johnson (R-OH). The bill would direct DOE to
develop a process to expedite approval for low-risk civil nuclear
exports, including delegation of Secretarial approval authority.
