Yesterday, we mentioned that we're watching the upcoming conference negotiations on
H.R. 5895,
the "minibus" appropriations package that includes FY 2019 funding for
the Department of Energy. Negotiations start today at 2:00pm, and
Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-TN), Chairman of the Senate Energy & Water Appropriations subcommittee, had indicated that a final agreement could come by the end of the week.
However,
senior aides have reported that several outstanding policy issues
will prevent the bill from being finalized as fast as indicated. If
the bill is not finished this week, there are only two more work weeks
remaining before the September 30 funding deadline, making a short-term
continuing resolution more likely.
