The internet erupted this
morning with stories about how the EPA is moving to revise radiation
standards. The reality seems a bit more cloudy, as best described
here.
Expect the hearing to
substantially discuss low-dose radiation standards. The lead witness
will be Dr. Edward J. Calabrese of the University of Massachusetts at
Amherst School of Public Health and Health Sciences, a toxicologist who
has said loosening limits on radiation exposure would save billions of
dollars and have a positive impact on human health.
The hearing comes in the wake of Congress passing
H.R. 589, which includes provisions directing DOE to re-start a low-dose radiation research program.
