Emirates Nuclear Energy Corp. gets approval for civil works at UAE new build site in Barakah

by I-Nuclear
Emirates Nuclear Energy Corp. (ENEC) has received formal approval to perform additional civil works at the proposed site for the UAE’s first nuclear power plants in Barakah, the company said March 8.
The Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) has given consent for ENEC to undertake additional site preparatory work including creating a smooth, flat surface at the bottom of the excavation using a thin layer of concrete in preparation for the installation of the initial nuclear safety concrete, ENEC said.
ENEC may also install waterproofing material over the leveled concrete, install encasement piping, and a protective layer of concrete to support installation of reinforcing steel later.
ENEC is not authorized to pour initial safety concrete until it is granted a construction license from Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR).
