The Senate also confirmed Jeff Baran to continue serving as a commissioner of the NRC. The Senate confirmed the three nominations by unanimous consent.

She understands how the NRC can be improved, so it can be more responsive to the American people and those the agency regulates.”

The Yeas Have It The Senate Appropriations Committee passed their FY 2019 Energy & Water appropriations bill yesterday, which includes $1.2 billion appropriated for the Office of Nuclear Energy, a $1 million increase from FY 2018. The report is available here.    In comparison, the House's bill includes $1.35 billion appropriated for the Office of Nuclear Energy, a $141 million increase from FY 2018. The next step for each bill will be floor consideration.

The IAEA has launched a new digital platform focusing on workforce planning, leadership, training, stakeholder involvement and human performance to support countries with operating nuclear power plants and those considering or developing new nuclear power programmes. The Nuclear Energy Capacity Building Hub allows registered users to join proactive communities of practice for information sharing, capacity building and networking.
Experts can join communities of practice for each topic, provide feedback on IAEA draft publications, explore IAEA e-learning tools, connect to other relevant webpages, browse IAEA publications and access documents from past meetings.
“The Hub offers a unique interactive online space for specialists working in the nuclear field,” said Lotta Halt, Training Specialist for Nuclear Power at the IAEA. “It will serve as the IAEA’s one-stop-shop for information and discussion on topics related to human resource development and stakeholder involvement for nuclear power programmes.”
The Hub will be introduced at the Third International Conference on Human Resource Development for Nuclear Power Programmes: Meeting Challenges to Ensure the Future Nuclear Workforce Capability, taking place on 28–31 May 2018 in Gyeongju, South Korea.
The development of the Hub follows requests from Member States for a modernization in the way nuclear professionals communicate. Its goal is to enable faster and more collaborative forums.

1. Go to http://nucleus.iaea.org, click on “Register” in the upper right corner and complete the form. An email will be sent to you after your registration. Click on the link in the email to confirm your registration in NUCLEUS. (If you already have a NUCLEUS account go to Step 2.)

2. Send your user account name, i.e. your email address, to HRD.Contact-Point@iaea.org with the following information: your name, position, organization and country, and which Hub topic(s) you are interested in.

3. Once your registration to the Hub is approved and confirmed by email, you can access the Members Area in the Nuclear Energy Capacity Building Hub.

Next week, oil and gas giants ExxonMobil and Chevron will hold their annual shareholder meetings. The added media and shareholder attention around these meetings offers a critical opportunity to demand they address their companies' futures under the realities of climate change.

We need your expert voice: If you had your chance at the microphone at one of these annual general meetings (AGMs), what would you ask ExxonMobil or Chevron? Share your questions with us on Facebook or Twitter using the hashtags #ExxonAGM or #ChevronAGM, and we'll highlight a few of our favorites on the day of their big meetings.

These AGMs are the one time each year that companies are required to meet with investors and take their questions face-to-face. Company executives will hear questions from shareholders on everything from their decades of sidelining climate science to how they plan to deal with lawsuits from communities suing them over climate-related damages.

We'll be attending both the ExxonMobil and Chevron meetings with local scientists to ask what the companies are doing to ensure that global temperature increase is kept well below 2 degrees Celsius, the limit experts agree we need to achieve to avoid the worst effects of global warming.
