Nukes in the Crosshairs Revisited: The Market and Emissions Impacts of Retirements

This gives a good look at what might happen if nuclear is closed in the US, and how it might impact emissions.

One of their conclusions is that the effectiveness of the Clean Power Plan (CPP), and the growth of renewables under the CPP really depends on how states put together implementation plans. I'm a little skeptical of their estimations for increases in generation from renewables (I think they are being too pessimistic).

But in both cases, lost nuclear generation is primarily replaced with fossil fuels - and keeping reactors open leads to lower emissions overall.
