The Ongoing Fukushima Daiichi Crisis; Ongoing Radioactive Discharges and Other Current Issues
The
radioactive discharge problem at Tepco's Fukushima Daiichi nuclear
power plant is bringing worldwide attention to Japan's ability to deal
with the continuing crisis at Fukushima.Tetsuro Tsutsui, member of the Citizens' Commission on Nuclear Energy (CCNE) 's sub-committee on Nuclear Regulation will be addressing CCNE's urgent proposal to the Japanese government concerning immediate countermeasures to be undertaken regarding Fukushima's radioactive discharges, and his perspectives on the latest crisis.
Gregory Jaczko is visiting Japan at the invitation of citizens from September 19 through the 24. Jaczko will be commenting on his trip, what he sees as the immediate issues facing Fukushima Daiichi accident, and what the United States can learn from Fukushima. His Japan tour includes Shikoku, location of Shikoku Electric's Ikata plant, one of eight plants currently being inspected for restart, and Hiroshima. Jaczko will also meet with CCNE technical experts to discuss current issues at Fukushima Daiichi including countermeasures to deal with the ongoing crisis.
Torgen Johnson, San Diego Forum citizen representative and urban planner, played a key role in shutting down the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station in San Diego County, California. He will be offering commentary regarding the Fukushima situation.
