NEI Talks to the Media About the AP Reports
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission said in a September 2010 report that it found "no statistically significant adverse safety trends in the industry," the Nuclear Energy Institute's Chief Nuclear Officer Tony Pietrangelo said during a press conference in response to a series of reports by The Associated Press questioning the safety of U.S. nuclear plants. The NRC oversees several measures that assure that plants are operating safely, he said. Sue Perkins-Grew, NEI's director of emergency preparedness, highlighted the levels of coordination between the NRC and the Federal Emergency Management Agency with respect to emergency preparedness.
