New NEI Website devoted to safety and industry's response to Fukushima

NEI is launching a new website devoted to safety and the industry’s response to the Fukushima Daiichi accident in Japan. The website— http://safetyfirst.nei.org—is another asset for the industry’s use as we favorably position the safety of U.S. nuclear energy facilities. The new site is a vital component of NEI’s ongoing efforts to clearly and efficiently communicate safety and preparedness in the aftermath of the events in Japan.
The website includes information on a variety of topics, including these main sections:
  • Japan: Fukushima Recovery Efforts – Read “NEI Updates” and the latest information on the Fukushima response efforts
  • Industry Actions: Incorporating Lessons From Japan – Information related to the industry’s evaluation of U.S. nuclear plants
  • Safety and Security: Planning Beyond the Unthinkable – General safety-related information at nuclear plants
  • Public Health: Protecting Our Communities – Perspective on radiation and radiation safety at nuclear plants
  • Ask an Expert: Answering FAQs – This section provides FAQs, video tutorials and access to experts for the public’s questions
  • News – NEI news releases, congressional testimony, fact sheets, graphics and videos
This new website does not replace NEI’s main site for information on broader nuclear energy issues. In fact, visitors to the new site will be directed back to the main NEI website through a series of links for information related to other nuclear energy issues. We encourage our member companies to link to this new site from your respective websites and add the url in relevant communications products related to the Fukushima recovery efforts or the industry’s response.

Safe/Secure

Safe/Secure

“Safety first” is not just our mantra—it’s our job, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Communities have the right to know the safety record of America’s nuclear energy plants. We are proud to share it. We are conducting a thorough assessment of the safety of each nuclear plant to ensure they are prepared for any event that could occur.
