Message From the President

Several weeks ago, Consumer Energy Alliance released a report entitled, "North America's New Energy Future. A roadmap toward energy self sufficiency. If we choose it." In it we conclude that North America can attain energy self-sufficiency by the year 2020, IF we as a nation work put in place the necessary policies to achieve that goal.

We congratulate President Obama on winning a second term in office. He is the first of two Presidents who will preside over this nation between now and 2020 and should work aggressively to achieve the goal of energy self-sufficiency.

We encourage the President to continue his support for a "we need it all" approach that includes the production of natural gas, oil, efficiency and alternative energy as ways to create jobs, invest here at home, and provide a safe abundant and reliable sources of domestic energy to meet growing demand. CEA hopes he will work to put in place policies that would expand that production to federal lands in the west, and off our coasts. We also recommend that the Administration work aggressively to increase our energy security by approving key projects like the Keystone XL pipeline and encouraging the construction of much needed electrical transmission infrastructure.

America can achieve energy self-sufficiency. But we must make achieving the goal a priority issue, not just lip service, while we work to build a diverse and vibrant energy mix. One that supports new and emerging technologies as a way to supplement our supply, while also maintaining support for traditional sources of reliable and affordable energy sourced from places here at home.

If we allow energy to play a leading role, our nation can revitalize our economy, create jobs and get back on the path toward economic prosperity, energy self-sufficiency and improve national security.

David Holt

President
