For the last few months, we’ve been keeping you updated on
H.R.3053, a bill pending in the House of Representatives that, if
passed, will improve our options for storing used nuclear fuel. It
already has crucial bipartisan support, but we need to urge
House leadership to bring this bill to the House floor and vote on it
NOW.
Here’s what the bill does:
- It strengthens future storage options by allowing the federal
government to partner with private storage facilities, which will
boost jobs, local revenue, and overall increase options for storing
used fuel;
- This bill will protect taxpayers by seeking to utilize the more
than $40 billion that ratepayers have already contributed to the
nuclear waste fund, while reducing the hundreds of millions annually
paid by taxpayers and used to settle lawsuits due to government
inaction;
- And finally, it empowers states and local communities to work with
the federal government to ensure the storage solutions are beneficial
for everyone involved.
As a Nuclear Matters advocate, we need your help to support the
nuclear industry every chance we get. Together we can protect our
nuclear energy future.
Thank you for your continued
support!
