Hongyanhe Unit 5 Containment Dome Placement Complete
Construction teams reached a major milestone at the Hongyanhe Unit 6 project in China on Wednesday with the placement of the 180-metric ton containment building dome.
Placement of the 37 meters in diameter by 11 meters tall dome signifies the end of the civil construction phase of the project, which now enters the installation phase, according to China Nuclear Industry 23 Construction Company's announcement. Toshiba Projects $9.2B Loss For Fiscal Year 2016
Japanese conglomerate
Toshiba, owner of U.S.-based nuclear power giant Westinghouse Electric
Company, released their twice-delayed financial report for the third
fiscal quarter of 2016 on Tuesday,
projecting losses of $9.2 billion for the year. The figures, which were
not signed off on by the company's auditor, is based on a $4.8 billion
loss for the first nine months of the year, plus skyrocketing losses at
Westinghouse due to that company's Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection

would like to thank Minister Calenda and our Italian hosts for their
hard work in preparing this Ministerial, and for their hospitality.
I was proud to represent the United States today, and I look forward to working with our G-7 partners in the years ahead.
The United States is committed to ensuring universal access to affordable and reliable energy in order to promote economic growth and energy security.
I discussed with my fellow Ministers that the Trump Administration believes that economic growth and the environment can successfully go hand-in-hand.
An example of this success is my experience as a Governor when we made good policy decisions that grew our economy, and added 4 million new residents to my state. At the same time, we reduced our emissions and improved our environment.
As the IEA shared with us during the meeting, renewables will continue to have an important role but traditional sources are still needed for energy and economic security into the foreseeable future.
Therefore, we believe it is wise for countries to use and pursue highly efficient energy resources. They include:
The IEA also shared the major impact that natural gas, including U.S. LNG exports, will have on energy security and environmental quality. This will benefit consumers.
With them in mind, we can and should work to put in place sensible policies that unlock the energy potential in each of our member countries.
And by doing so, we will take major steps towards ensuring energy and national security not just among our member countries, but for our friends and allies as well.

- High efficiency, low-emission coal and natural gas with adequate financing from multi-lateral development banks and private sector investment.
- Advanced civil-nuclear technologies that are proliferation resistant, produce little to no waste and ensure safety.

WIPP Receives First Shipment Since Reopening
A
truck arrives at the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant with the first
shipment of transuranic waste to be shipped to the site after its
reopening in January.
CARLSBAD, N.M. – EM’s Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP)
today announced receipt of its first shipment of transuranic (TRU)
waste since WIPP reopened in January. The shipment from Idaho is an
important milestone for WIPP and for DOE host communities that have had
to store TRU waste since WIPP suspended operations in February 2014 when
a truck fire and unrelated radiological event temporarily closed the
facility.
“To see shipments arriving again at WIPP is celebrated not only by the
WIPP workforce and the Carlsbad community but also by our DOE host
communities that support the critical missions of the Department,”
Carlsbad Field Office Manager Todd Shrader said.
Jack Zimmerman, Deputy Manager for the Idaho Cleanup Project at the
DOE Idaho Operations Office, said, “Due to the skill and dedication of
our workers, the Idaho Site has made remarkable progress over the years.
We owe a great debt of gratitude to every employee who has worked on
this project. I speak for all of us when I say that we are pleased to be
shipping to WIPP again.”
The facility plans to receive two shipments a week, ramping up to four
shipments a week by the end of 2017. Initial shipments are expected
from Idaho, Savannah River Site and Waste Control Specialists. Shipments
from Oak Ridge and Los Alamos National Laboratory are expected later
this year.
Eligibility for shipping is based on the generator sites verifying
that the TRU waste meets requirements for safe transportation and
disposal. The exact allocation and sequence for shipping will be
adjusted based on the emplacement rate at WIPP, operational needs at the
WIPP and generator sites, and logistical issues, such as weather, that
affect shipping.
