Upgrade Work Enters New Phase For Germany’s Wendelstein 7-X :: The Independent Global Nuclear News Agency: The next stage has begun of work to upgrade of the world’s largest stellarator-type fusion device at the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics (IPP) in Greifswald, Germany.



IPP said installation of new water-cooled inner cladding of the plasma vessel will make the Wendelstein 7-X facility suitable for higher heating power and longer plasma pulses.



The new cladding’s centrepiece, the so-called divertor, was manufactured by the institute’s Garching branch. It was delivered to Greifswald on 17 March and installation work will last until well into next year.

Regulator Bans College Employee After Violations At US Research Reactor :: The Independent Global Nuclear News Agency: The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission has issued an order banning a college employee in the state of Oregon from NRC-licensed activities for three years and suspending the person’s senior reactor operator licence for deliberately providing incomplete and inaccurate information to the NRC for reactor operator licence applications.



The NRC said the individual also violated facility access control requirements at the Reed Research Reactor at Reed College in Portland, Oregon.



The commission said in a statement it has issued Reed College with a confirmatory order regarding the case. The order says the NRC has given Reed credit for taking a number of corrective actions.
