JRR-3M Research Reactor Back Online After Fukushima Upgrades :: The Independent Global Nuclear News Agency: The Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) has resumed operation of its JRR-3M research reactor near Tokai in Ibaraki Prefecture, north of Tokyo in eastern Japan.
In November 2018, after four years of safety examinations by the Nuclear Regulation Authority, JAEA was given approval to carry out work at the facility to make sure it met new regulatory standards introduced after the March 2011 Fukushima-Daichi accident. The facility had been shut down for a periodic inspection in 2010 and was never restarted.

Data Shows Slight Increase In 2020 Nuclear Generation :: The Independent Global Nuclear News Agency: Nuclear power supplied 2,600 TWh of emissions-free electricity in 2020, accounting for about 10% of total global electricity generation and nearly a third of the world’s low-carbon electricity production, International Atomic Energy agency director-general Rafael Mariano Grossi said in an introductory statement to the board of governors.
This was a slight increase from 2,586 TWh in 2019. Earlier IAEA data shows the figure was 1,890 TWh in 1990.

The tunnel is for the 'joint functional test', which involves small-scale final disposal under actual conditions, and is part of commissioning the geological repository. The joint functional test can be used to demonstrate that the processes and procedures related to final disposal are in order and, only then, can the disposal facility be granted an operating licence.
