NARUC files suit to suspend used-fuel fees

NARUC files suit to suspend used-fuel fees
The National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners has sued the Department of Energy over the collection of fees to develop a federal repository for used nuclear fuel. The department should shelve the yearly fees, which are levied to nuclear facilities and their customers, until the government arrives at a decision for a repository, NARUC said. "We want to work with the Energy Department to find a solution to the nation's nuclear waste problem, but consumers should be given a break until such a solution is found," said Tony Clark, president of NARUC.
