Bradford: Safety reviews could delay U.S. nuclear projects
Studies on how to improve safety in the aftermath of the nuclear crisis in Japan could slow the construction of U.S. reactors, said Peter Bradford, a former member of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. "When you look at the number of people who are going to have to pay attention to new issues from seismic design to the placement and reliability of diesel generators to emergency off-site evacuation plans, that's a huge resource commitment that NRC is going to have to make if it's going to live up to its own statements and President [Barack] Obama's statements about putting the lessons learned process first," Bradford said.
