Global downward trend for nuclear energy to continue, report says
The number of nuclear plants worldwide in operation, under construction or in the planning stages is falling, and it remains unclear whether the sector will recover, according to a recent report. The study, commissioned by a German government agency, found that there seems to be a growing gap between realities and trends in the industry and perceptions of a nuclear revival. "With extremely long lead times of 10 years and more, it will be practically impossible to maintain, let alone increase, the number of operating nuclear power plants over the next 20 years," the report added.
