Safety issues may prompt China to slow pace of nuclear expansion

Safety issues may prompt China to slow pace of nuclear expansion
China may delay its construction of nuclear power facilities to focus on safety measures at the plants, said Zhang Guobao, chief of the National Energy Administration. The country originally wanted to reach 40 gigawatts of nuclear power capacity by 2020, which would require building about two reactors annually. "We'd rather move slower and achieve less than incur potential safety concerns in terms of nuclear energy," Zhang said during an energy conference. Reuters
