Experts: Japan nuclear evacuees could eventually return to homes
Residents
affected by the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear incident in Japan could
eventually return to their homes, compared with the Chernobyl site in
Ukraine, which remains inside a large restricted zone, Ukrainian nuclear
experts said. "If people like to return and they will have a dose of
less than 20 millisieverts per year, according to international
standards this is possible," said Oleg Nasvit, a radiation expert and
nuclear physicist at Kiev's National Institute for Strategic Studies.
"This is not about this circle of 20 kilometers but it is about the
radiological situation," he added. The News & Observer (Raleigh, N.C.)/The Associated Press
