Today's
Fukushima updates are headed by a commentary on Japan's
apparent historical lack of meeting international safety standards.

Commentary - Japan’s historical lack of safety upgrades amplifies
- It seems we have yet another example of a Japanese financial conflict
of interest and a ruthless persistence to ignore the potential for the
rare-but-not-impossible nuclear accident. Their 23 Pressurized Water
Reactor containments have never had hydrogen mitigating technologies
installed. This goes against the international safety standard. Was it
done to save money, which we now know was a main reason why the
Fukushima accident was possible? Hopefully, Japan's forthcoming new
standards will bring them up to
international safety standards.
Other
updates include - The head of Japan’s new regulatory group, the NRA,
says their forthcoming standards will bring Japan’s nuclear program up
to international levels of safety... The European Union (EU) has eased
their import restrictions on Japanese food products caused by fear of
Fukushima accident contamination... One Japanese utility (Hookaido
Electric) says they fear a power shortfall this winter.
