China builds first reactor for largest nuclear project

China has resumed construction of the first reactor in a project to build the nation's largest nuclear power plant within 20 years, state media said on Sunday. Initial work was suspended at the Shidao Bay plant in the eastern province of Shandong following the tsunami accident at Japan's Fukushima nuclear plant in March 2011.

Work resumed last month on the first high-temperature, gas-cooled, 200-megawatt reactor, which is designed to produce electricity by the end of 2017 and would cost some 3 billion yuan (476 million dollars), the official Xinhua news agency quoted the developer as saying. http://www.brecorder.com/general-news/172/1140458/
