At Plant Vogtle, New Construction Photos and Good News From the Court
Construction at Georgia's Plant Vogtle, where Southern
Co. is leading a project to add two Westinghouse AP1000 reactors,
continued to make visible progress in April. That work will continue
unabated thanks to an appeals court decision Tuesday rejecting a suit by
nine environmental groups opposed to the expansion. The Atlanta
Business Chronicle reported that the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals
decided not to hear the case, which sought to reopen the licensing of
the AP1000 following the Fukushima Daiichi accidents in Japan.
Meanwhile, at the massive construction site near Augusta, the unit 3 reactor pressure vessel arrived by rail as workers furthered their progress assembling cooling towers, nuclear islands, containment vessels and other structures. View Pictures >>>>
