NEI's President and CEO Marv Fertel highlights two major events happening in the nuclear energy industry this week. The first is a letter written by prominent climate scientists that asks environmental groups to support nuclear power. The letter authors are James Hansen, a former top NASA scientist; Ken Caldeira of the Carnegie Institution; Kerry Emanuel of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology; and Tom Wigley of the University of Adelaide in Australia. They make the argument that "in the real world there is no credible path to climate stabilization that does not include a substantial role for nuclear power." The second is the debut of Pandora's Promise on CNN on Thursday, November 7, at 9 p.m. EST. Filmmaker Robert Stone created this documentary to tell the story of four environmentalists who came around to favor nuclear energy as a means to slow climate change.
