Special Announcement: 5th Annual Doomsday Clock Symposium streaming live

Special Announcement: November 14, 2013

The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists convene its 5th Annual Doomsday Clock Symposium today, Thursday, November 14, 2013, at the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) in Washington, D.C.

The daylong program, “Communicating Catastrophe,” is free and open to the public. Experts and authors Page Stoutland, Carole Gallagher, Isao Hashimoto, Kerry Brougher, and others will discuss the imagery and designs that convey catastrophic threats to society from nuclear weapons and deadly climate disruption. By bringing together the art and science of devastation, the Symposium will provide an unusual opportunity to consider what approaches will inspire people to act to prevent society’s destruction.
Following the Symposium at the AAAS, the Bulletin is co-hosting a “Meet the Artist” event at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden featuring Japanese artist Yoshimoto Nara; Nara’s work is included in the Hirshhorn’s current exhibit, “Damage Control: Art and Destruction Since 1950.”
