Nuclear Facility Cancer Study Planned by D.C. Group; Women & Children Most at Risk for Cancer

The first public meeting for a pilot study on cancer risks around U.S. nuclear facilities is Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013, 2-4 pm, Nat'l Academy of Sciences Building, 2101 Constitution Avenue, NW (Rm 125), Washington, D.C. The NAS Committee planning this study will investigate just 7 of many facilities licensed by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, but the results of this study will most likely affect all U.S. nuclear facilities. 

You can participate by commenting on the methodology of this study, and by sharing any health-related personal experiences you have had living near these facilities. Women and children are more susceptible to radiation damage and NAS's Phase I report, which set the groundwork for Phase II, recognized that childhood leukemia is a sentinel cancer for radiation exposure -- a connection indicated by study results in both France and Germany.
