Russia may be open to rework MOX agreement

A report dated Jan. 13 shows that Russia may be willing to renegotiate its agreement with the U.S. over the Savannah River Site’s MOX program; however, the potential details of that renegotiation could cause security issues.
In a document titled, “Disposition of Excess Weapon Grade Plutonium: New Developments” that the Aiken Standard recovered, Russia submitted its position on the federal government potentially choosing a plutonium disposition path over the Mixed Oxide Fuel Fabrication Facility – a facility that would turn weapons-grade plutonium into nuclear reactor fuel.
