Russia may be open to rework MOX agreement
A report dated Jan. 13 shows that Russia may be willing
to renegotiate its agreement with the U.S. over the Savannah River
Site’s MOX program; however, the potential details of that renegotiation
could cause security issues.
In a document titled, “Disposition of Excess Weapon Grade
Plutonium: New Developments” that the Aiken Standard recovered, Russia
submitted its position on the federal government potentially choosing a
plutonium disposition path over the Mixed Oxide Fuel Fabrication
Facility – a facility that would turn weapons-grade plutonium into
nuclear reactor fuel.
