Germany’s
energy transition, called the “Energiewende,” is about much more than
national energy policy. Germany’s move away from nuclear and its massive
public investment in solar comes from old nationalist and Romantic
ideals, post-Cold War distrust for centralized power, and “bright green”
techno-optimism.
