Energy, Climate Change & the Case for Nuclear Power
David
Walters argues that nuclear power as a low CO2 producing
energy source must be part of the solution to uncontrolled
global warming. New technologies, such as the Liquid Fluoride
Thorium Reactor (which doesn’t require any uranium mining,
enrichment or long term disposal of spent fuel) and the
Integral Fast Reactor, provide the basis for eliminating
fossil fuels and for powering a future society without want.
The lesson of Fukushima is that it is too dangerous an
industry to be left in private hands and to be driven by the
profit motive. It would be much better for energy to be under
the democratic control of society, that is, what we call socialism.
