The Grid

Meredith Angwin has given a course at OSHER (Dartmouth life-long learning).  Tomorrow, the course will visit ISO-NE control room.

The course is not just about nuclear issues, but about how the grid works and how things are paid for on the grid.  It was recorded by our local community TV station, and is now being mounted at VIMEO.  I think nuclear communicators will find it of interest.

The first class is now up at Vimeo.  It consists of me giving an introduction to the course, and Howard Shaffer discussing energy flows on the grid (physical issues).  The Grid, What Your Electricity Bill Won't Tell You.

The second class is not mounted yet, but it will be me discussing policy issues and controversies on the grid. The third class is Christine Hallquist "recovering engineer" and president of Vermont Electric Cooperative, describing her view of issues on the grid. She includes the issue of the destabilization due to the growth of sources that aren't rotating electric machinery.

All the course material is available here.  The second and third class are not mounted yet.  I will send links when they are.
