TABLE-Japan nuclear reactor operations: Kyushu shuts Sendai No.2

TABLE-Japan nuclear reactor operations: Kyushu shuts Sendai No.2: Japan's Kyushu Electric Power Co said it shut the No.2 reactor at the Sendai nuclearplant on Monday for planned maintenance. The reactor is scheduled to restart and resume powergeneration in late August, a company spokesman said. Many of Japan's reactors are still going through arelicensing process following the 2011 Fukushima disaster, theworld's worst since Chernobyl in 1986, which highlightedregulatory and operational failings at nuclear utilities. The restart process has been protracted as all of thecountry's reactors were eventually idled. Between September 2013and August 2015 Japan had no nuclear plants in operation. Japan's nine regional power utilities and a wholesaler,Japan Atomic Power Co, have 40 nuclear reactors for commercialuse, with a total generating capacity of 39.132 gigawatts. After the shutdown of the Sendai No.2 unit, four reactorsare online, with a combined capacity of 4.10 gigawatts, or 10.5percent of the country's total nuclear capacity, according toReuters calculations. The following table shows the status of Japan's nuclearpower plants. Company Plant Unit MW Status Hokkaido Tomari 1
