Plan to save Diablo Canyon CA nuclear power plant is doomed. | San Luis Obispo Tribune

Plan to save Diablo Canyon CA nuclear power plant is doomed. | San Luis Obispo Tribune: A plan to save the Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant in California by amending the state Constitution has no chance. Nuclear power supporters are better off lobbying for next-gen plants in the future.

Comment from Gene Nelson:

Sadly, the editorial opinion provides evidence that the newspaper's
understanding of established science, engineering, and economics seems to
be dominated by wishful thinking that eventual adoption of the emotionally
appealing "100% renewables" is a viable option.

My initial rebuttal of the editorial appears below:

As a newspaper, the SLO Tribune should base its editorial opinions on
facts, not the wildly exaggerated claims of organizations institutionally
opposed to nuclear power. Review of the original front-page August 29,
2019 news article regarding Assemblyman Cunningham's ACA 18 proposed
legislation shows that the DCPP criticisms in the editorial mostly emanate
from a vocal anti-nuclear power group. based here in SLO. Californians for
Green Nuclear Power, Inc. and Environmental Progress have rebutted those
false claims in many venues, including sworn legal filings to the
California Public Utilities Commission.

Perhaps Californians for Green Nuclear Power, Inc., Environmental Progress
and other organizations and individuals can draft a joint rebuttal ASAP.
