In light of current DOE Secretary Rick Perry's announced departure,
President Trump has tapped Deputy Secretary Dan Brouillette to assume
the role.
Brouillette has a long history of substantive policy work in
Washington, DC and is well-regarded in energy circles. He was confirmed
as Deputy Secretary in August 2017 with a bipartisan vote of 79-17 in
the Senate.
The political maneuvering on nuclear issues has already begun in the Senate. On Friday,
Senator Cortez Masto (D-NV) released
a statement saying "it's imperative that our next Energy Secretary
respects the voices of the overwhelming majority of Nevadans who oppose
the Yucca Mountain project and honor the written commitment I secured
from Secretary Perry to remove the secret shipment of plutonium from out
state beginning in 2021. I look forward to meeting with Deputy
Secretary Brouillette and reiterating the importance of these issues to
Nevadans."
