Increased Oversight To Continue Of Age-Related Issues At Dungeness :: The Independent Global Nuclear News Agency: The UK’s nuclear regulator will continue increased oversight at the Dungeness B nuclear power station where both reactors have been shut down during the last year due to a range of complex age-related issues.
Chief nuclear inspector Mark Foy said in a report on the performance of Britain’s nuclear industry during 2018 and 2019 that the station, in southeast England, will receive enhanced regulatory attention “due to significant plant corrosion issues identified by licensee EDF Energy”.
The report said EDF Energy had responded to the regulator’s concerns by undertaking a number of additional inspections, which resulted in the identification of a wide range of corrosion issues. The collective significance of these findings was elevated to a Level 2 incident on the International Nuclear and Radiological Events Scale (INES).
