NRC urged to further study S.C. fuel plant before license extension
During
a Nuclear Regulatory Commission public hearing, participants called on
the NRC to conduct a more detailed environmental impact statement on
whether the 50-year-old Westinghouse nuclear fuel factory in Richland
County, S.C., should continue to operate for another 40 years. The NRC
had reported earlier that the plant was safe enough to operate another
four decades after its license expires in 2027.
