2.) A well made and
very entertaining documentary called Thorium, The Far Side of Nuclear.
It tells the story of how, over 50 years ago, a group of scientists
tasked with making a nuclear airplane, invented a different type of
nuclear reactor. A reactor that couldn't melt down (not that meltdowns
are anywhere as deadly as coal plants, spewing pollution in normal
operation) and made enough process heat that it could deeply decarbonize
our entire society. It's called the Molten Salt Reactor. Oh, and it
has one of my favorite scientists, Alvin Weinberg, in cartoon form,
drinking Jack Daniels for a good chunk of the movie. Definitely worth a
watch:
