• | The UK's Horizon Nuclear Power
is seeking an extension to 2023 for planning consent for highway improvements
needed to support the construction and operation of the planned Wylfa Newydd nuclear
power plant on the Isle of Anglesey. Permission was originally granted for the
improvements in 2018 but this is due to expire in July. "We’re doing this now
to enable a swift restart should Wylfa Newydd be granted a Development Consent
Order by UK Government later in 2020 and if the right funding model is in place," the company said. |
• | South Korea is to spend KRW322.3
billion (USD261 million) to establish nuclear decommissioning research centres
under a plan announced yesterday by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy,
KBS reported. Under the plan, construction of a main centre on the border
between the southern port cities of Busan and Ulsan and a branch in Gyeongju will
begin in the second half of 2021. The research laboratories will focus on the
development and commercialisation of decommissioning technologies. |
• | The implementation of joint projects in the nuclear energy sector was amongst current issues of Russian-Turkish cooperation that were addressed during a telephone conversation yesterday between Russian President Vladimir Putin and President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan. According to the Kremlin, the main focus of the discussion was on a range of issues related to the spread of the coronavirus. |
