Pakistan Pledges Response to Indian Nuclear-Capable Submarines
The head of the Pakistani navy said his nation is pursuing "necessary measures" to respond to India's acquisition of nuclear-capable submarines, Defense News reported last week (see GSN, Jan. 23).India last month took possession of a leased Russian Akula-class attack submarine, which has been renamed the INS Chakra. Previous reports indicate the vessel is capable of carrying nuclear-tipped cruise missiles, but that no such weapons would be loaded onto the submarine.
